Rich has been influenced by many artists including Steve Smith, Billy Cobham, Buddy Rich, Dom Famularo, Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Neil Peart, Jeff Porcaro, Peter Criss and John Bonham.
Rich says that his first drumset ever purchased was a Gretsch kit. He said he began playing Gretsch 26 years ago and still plays them today because of that great Gretsch sound and reliability.
Rich's advice for aspiring musicians is to always practice four limb coordination. Work with a metronome. Practice to become affluent in all musical styles.
